To win America's independence, over 210,000 soldiers and sailors fought in the Continental Army and Navy, as well as in the various state and local militias. Furthermore, there were thousands of civilian Patriots who also contributed in various ways to the struggle for freedom and the founding of our nation. The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) is a lineage organization of men who are descendants of these Patriots. The Society was founded on April 30, 1889 by a New Jersey business man named William Osborn McDowell and, over the last 130 years, has grown to its current size of more than 210,000 members. The Society is organized by States that, in turn, are comprised of local Chapters. The Isaac Shelby Chapter includes over 100 Compatriots, mostly from the Memphis, Tennessee area. It was named after Colonel Isaac Shelby, an officer who distinguished himself in both the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.

The Chapter generally meets ten times a year in Memphis for lunch or dinner. We love to have visitors and prospective members join us at our chapter meetings. If you are interested, you can contact our President, Rick Treharne.
